The main properties of an organ are a separate structure unit, a set of common unique functions and a unique main tissue. Skin does have these properties. It has a unique separate structure and a unique set of functions. In reality these features are more prominent in the skin than many other systems and organs which are associated with each other in structure and function. Many other organs in the body do not have a totally and completely separate structure or functione. e.g. the eye is considered a part of the brain, the circulatory system is very attached to the urinary system in the Bowmans capsule. The liver is attached to the alimentary tract and share a main common function which is digestion. Skin has very unique functions and it is separated from the underlying tissues and organs by the fascia.

The skin is considered an organ because it is composed of related tissue, particularly epithelial tissue that provides a barrier between the inside of the body and the outside world. It is the largest organ in the body.

Because it keeps all of your organs in a contained area (without skin everything would just hang from your bones).
