What is the renewable energy of a hybrid car? Solar auto can only go very short distances. If you drive less then ten miles a month or so you can get away with almost any car.
The issue is one of available energy and technology. There is only so much energy in one square meter of sunlight. This is only available on occasion and for short periods of time.
Even if we could triple the output of a solar panel and cover a car with panels, we could only move a VERY short distance per day with a car that was legal in the Untied States. Probably under one mile a day even in the sunniest areas.
The other issue would be that no one would buy a auto that was tens of thousands of dollars to drive a few miles a month.
