The great bell of the palace of Westminster clock tower, commonly known as Big Ben, was the largest bell in England at 16 tons until it was surpassed by 'Great Paul' in St. Paul's cathedral (16¾ tons).

It was cracked early in it's life and the bell has had a slightly off-colour note ever since.
