What makes the McDonald's logo good is that it follows the five aspects of good logo design. 1. A Logo should be simple, as to not distract from the business it represents. This is likely the strongest aspect of the Golden Arches. 2. A logo should be memorable. 3. A logo should timeless, so it can build brand recognition by not needing to be be replaced every several years. Again the Arches are one of the most recognizeable symbols in the world, in part because of their longevity. 4. A logo should be versatile so it can be used in many ways without needing redesigns. 5. A logo should be appropriate, so as to not confuse potential clients. The Golden Arches meets all of these points, and excells in several of them.
