That sound usually signifies a "match" or "high score free game".

For a "Match", most pinball machines have a game of chance at the end of your session to win a free game. Your final score is shown on the machine, the last two numbers particularly. The machine then randomizes it's two numbers on the same screen. If your number and the machines number is the same, you've won a free game credit.

For a "High Score Free Game", when a certian score is reached, you earn a free game credit. The score needed varies by game, and is changable by the machines operator.

Both instances produce a snap sound.
