∙ 12y agoThe only two mammals that reproduce by laying eggs are the echidna and the platypus. The platypus and the short-beaked echidna are native to Australia. There are two species of echidna, the long-beaked echidna and the short beaked echidna, both of which are found in New Guinea.

∙ 12y agoalmost all reptiles lay eggs on land (though some lay them in water), and a few amphibians (usually some sort of newt or salamander) do as well. I'm not sure about the semi aquatic platypus, which is the only mammal to lay eggs, but other than those, there's not really much of any other animal besides birds (which I don't think really counts since it's usually up in a tree rather than literally on the ground.

∙ 10y agoNo mammal (indeed no land animal) lays eggs in water. The platypus, which swims and feeds in water, is a monotreme that lays eggs, but it does so in special burrows where they can be incubated. When the eggs hatch, the mother nurses the young as all mammals do.
