Wind chimes can be made out of a variety of materials. Spoons, coconuts, soda cans, etc... It depends on what you want it to sound like. Generally, all you need is string, and a frame to hold the chimes. A simple wooden square could be used. Tie or staple the strings to the frame, and place the chimes so that they do not touch each other, but will come in contact if the wind blows.
Bells, which work in a similar way to chimes, can be made with brass, so why can't chimes? Of course, brass creates a different sound than say, aluminum or bamboo, but thats why there are so many different materials used in wind chimes- each material has its own unique sound.
