They used wood Ebano fine with it in extinction and now are made of grenadilla. It is an African wood in a dark color.

oboes are made of wood, but can be bought in plastic too. I used to have a plastic Oboe, but now have a wooden one with a plastic top joint (the top joint cracks too much otherwise).
