Johannes Gutenberg is credited with inventing the printing press around 1440, which revolutionized the spread of information by enabling mass production of books and other printed materials. William Caxton introduced the printing press to England in the late 15th century and was responsible for the first book printed in English.
An edition of a book refers to the time it was printed. For example, a first edition was published in the first round of printing. A second edition is one which was printed in the second run of printing and so on.
