National Parks are not discovered, they are established after they are known. However, I think you are thinking of John Colter, a member of the Lewis & Clark Expedition (1804-1806) that turned back upstream as the Expedition was returning to St. Louis. Colter "discovered" the area that was set aside as Yellowstone National Park 66 years later.
No. During the expedition, Garcia Lopez de Cardenas, a member of his expedition, discovered the Colorado Canyon (August, 1540), and gathered extensive information on the present day American Southwest. The expedition itself was considered a failure.
If we knew the expedition we could answer the question.
As a geologist, Sir Douglas Mawson contributed greatly to our scientific knowledge. However, as an explorer he made two major discoveries. He was part of the first ascent of Mount Erebus on Ross Island and discovered the Magnetic South Pole, both as a member of Sir Ernest Shackleton's Nimrod expedition. He also led his own expedition to Antarctica, the Australasian Antarctica Expedition, and he mapped a great deal of the coastline of George V Land on this expedition.
Sergeant Charles Floyd, a member of the Lewis and Clark expedition, was buried in what is now known as Sioux City, Iowa. He is the only expedition member to have died during the journey.
