I can only speak for my country New Zealand, where the slab chocolate is commonly wrapped in aluminum foil, then a decorative outer wrapper of paper.
For small individual sweets, such as say choc caramels, these are wrapped in a plastic film, the surface of which may have a metalized coating - but very thin. Once again, the metallic film will probably be aluminum, because it is cheap, easily melted for the coating process, and can take colours and dies for decoration.
