18 Karat Gold is an alloy containing 75% gold with other metals 25% (usually silver or nickel) Normally the part of the solution with the greater percentage is the solvent. So in this case *Gold would be the solvent and silver or nickel or both would be the solute*

Because the 24k yellow gold is a soft metal and it is not good to made jewelry has to used other precious metal alloys to create durability. I think it's better to use the best alloys and not yellow gold scams metal to make jewelry's.

  • 18-Carat gold is forming an alloy with 75% gold
  • The carat or karat (symbol: K or kt) is a unit of purity for gold alloys.
  • Carat purity is measured as 24 times the pure mass divided by the total mass:carat = 24 x Massg / masst

where carat is the carat rating of the material, massg is the mass of pure gold or platinum in the material, andmasst is the total mass of the material.

  • Therefore,
    • 24-Carat gold is fine (actually 99.9% gold by mass rather than 100%),
    • 18-Carat gold is 18 parts gold 6 parts another metal (forming an alloy with 75% gold), 12-Carat gold is 12 parts gold (12 parts another metal), and so forth.

A carat is 1/24th of a part, so 14 carat gold is 14/24 (7/12ths) gold. 24 carat is pure gold. 14 carat works out as 58.3% gold, but by volume, the non-gold metals such as silver and copper add up to most of the product.

Will 925 18k gold tarnish?

.925 is a silver content. Sterling silver being 92.5% or higher silver content, the remaining alloys are 7.5%. Some alloys may slow tarnish, but there is no alloy that will eliminate the need for polishing. .750 or 18k gold wont tarnish but may change color with age depending on the remaining .250 alloys. If you are asking if 18k gold plating over a .925 sterling silver base will tarnish, the answer will be when the goldplating has worn off exposing the base metal to the elements, It will tarnish like any other silver.
