Nickel/palladium and gold.
White Gold is a alloy of gold and other metals (usually silver), it is not pure gold. Pure gold is golden in colour.
10k or 10 carat gold is a mix of 41.7% gold and the rest is comprised of other metals.
white gold is shinier. Not really. There is no such thing as white gold. White gold is yellow gold with other metals in it to appear white. When you see it in the stores it usually has a rhodium plating on it. Rhodium is a white metal with a really high shine. Yellow gold when new is very shiny also.
Gold itself is an element. All of the gold you are likely to see (rings, watches, plating, etc.) is an alloy (mixture) of gold and other metals. Even "pure gold" jewellery (24 k) is only +99.9% pure
Yes, the gold in jewelry (such as rings) is an element. But jewelry is not made of pure gold, because pure gold is too soft. The other metals make it harder, and can affect the color of the jewelry (this is how you get 'white gold' - different metals make it look more white than other gold jewelry).

No such thing as 24K white gold. The two terms, white gold, and 24K contradict each other. 24K is pure gold, with no other metals present. White gold is a mix of gold and other metals, usually palladium, nickel, or zinc. If the gold contains any of those metals, it cannot be pure gold, so cannot be 24K. Sort of like dehydrated water- contradiction in terms.

Cotton is known as 'white gold'. It is obviously not to be confused with the alloy of gold with such metals as nickel. The term has also been applied to salt.
By changing the mixture of metals, different colors are created. Rose gold has a higher copper content, white gold has more nickel, and alloying the gold with silver will create green gold.
