It might be because there is a connection loose in the hard drive or there is a problem with windows that it can't load. try booting an operating system from a memory stick and if that works, re-install the operating system that you were first trying to boot.
ME is terrible!! My ME machine works wonderfully with XP. I did upgrade the memory to 512 before upgrading (about $80), and you might improve your memory situation and see how it runs then. Make sure you buy the same kind of memory that your machine has, however. If you have your receipt from purchasing the computer, it should list the type of memory you have.

I´m having a same problem and i found out that one of pins in memory card slot is been broken. It might be a same problem as yours..
