we all would eat loads of icecream.... what do ya think?

In My opinion, MacArthur wanted to Nuke China to save the lives it would have taken to beat back what was then left at the time farmers, and untrained men. We beat their best in the push back north the second time, and their casualties were much greater than ours. The kill rate was 10/1, The real fear was igniting another World War. Russia would probably have gotten involved because they would not have wanted American soldiers on their doorstep. With a true 100 American push we could have defeated China at that time provided Russia not get involved. I think we made a mistake in not pushing back to the north of Korea and setting up a defensive line and thus leaving a free united Korea. Truman was in to much of a hurry to just negotiate a cease fire for the appetite of the American people right after WWII was for an end to war. MacArthur had the right Idea and had we followed his Leadership excluding the nukes the world would be better off today for it.

What conflict developed between Truman and MacArthur and how was it settled?

General MacArthur wanted to bomb China and President Truman did not agree. It was settled when the President basically fired General MacArthur.

Who had the best strategy in the Korean War Truman or MacArthur?

Truman had been an artillery Captain with the Missouri Army National Guard; but was a politician at heart. MacArthur was a born and bred fighting man. His father had won the Medal of Honor during the US Civil War. True fighting men like Grant, Sherman, Patton and MacArthur made better soldiers than politicians. Moderate fighting men like Eisenhower, Bradley, and Truman made better politicians than soldiers. MacArthur would win wars, but we didn't WANT A WAR in Korea. The "fighting man" inside MacArthur couldn't or wouldn't see that. The "Politician" inside Truman could see it very clearly; Korea could lead to nuclear war. The wrong war, at the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the wrong people. For a LIMITED WAR (the only kind one can fight in the ATOMIC AGE) Truman had the best strategy. It ended with an Armistice in 1953. MacArthur would NOT have fought a LIMITED WAR; he would have invaded Red China and used Atomic Bombs.
