In earlier years miracles were not a requirement for canonization. That has come about in recent centuries. Teresa of Avila was not known as a great miracle performer. If Our Lord did work miracles through Teresa there is apparently no written record of them. She is better known as a mystic, reformer and writer. For more information, check the link below.

Saint Teresa of Ávila, also known as Saint Teresa of Jesus, became a Catholic saint due to her work founding convents, writing spiritual literature, promoting reform within the Carmelite order, and displaying strong faith and devotion to God throughout her life. She was canonized by the Catholic Church in 1622.

St. Teresa of Avila was canonized on March 12, 1622, by Pope Gregory XV.

Saint Teresa of Avila was the reformer of the Carmelite Order in the 16th century who started the Discalced Carmelites along with St. John of the Cross. She was a very holy woman who wrote, under obedience to her superiors many books on spirituality and prayer. She, along with St. John of the Cross are considered the true masters of Mystical Prayer which is achieved during contemplation, which, itself, is a gift of God. One can not produce contemplation, only prepare oneself for it. Her life, her writings, the testimony of her sisters, were all used to prepare the way for canonization.

Roman Catholic AnswerSt. Teresa of Avila was a Carmelite who reformed the Carmelite order and founded the Discalced Carmelites. She became a saint by following the will of God, she was a great mystic, and left us numerous books on how to pray and how to live the Christian life which she wrote at the command of her spiritual directors. She was humble, and obedient to the Will of God in all things, seeing the Will of God in the commands of her superiors and her directors. This complete obedient and humility led to great perfection in this life.
