What happened to all the water vapour in the early atmosphere

photosynthesis
They thought this because the atmosphere contained very little oxygen. Anaerobic means without oxygen and the early atmosphere of the Earth was very low in oxygen. Only those organism that could live without oxygen could survive. Those cells were cyanobacteria which are sometimes (incorrectly) called blue-green algae.
oxogen: unkown because of unknown life. elements: everything but pure potassium because that was not made till 1900's because it acts with air
The first atmosphere of the earth was probably mostly hydrogen with some simple hydrides such as water vapor, methane and ammonia. Vulcanism and asteroidal bombardment eventually replaced this with an atmosphere of mostly nitrogen, with carbon dioxide and some of the inert gasses.
Oxygen was not present in large amounts in the early atmosphere of Earth.
