According to NASA, on August 27, 2003, Earth and Mars were the closest they have been for around 60,000 years. Mars was indeed a spectacular site in the night sky during several months of 2003.
Nothing like this will happen in 2009 despite an awful lot of emails scams promising spectacular naked eye views of Mars' surface. This can NEVER happen.
Mars' closest approach to the Earth is called "opposition," and occurs roughly every 780 days. The actual distance between the planets at that time varies considerably; it can be as little as about 55 million kilometers or as much as 100 million kilometers. Particularly close oppositions occur every 15 to 17 years; the opposition in 2003 was closer than any previous one in recorded history.
it gets 63 million miles to
the Earth The Earth is the closest planet to Mars. During the period of their orbits, Mars is 34 million mi (55 million km) away from the Earth at their closest and 249 million mi (400 million km) at their farthest to each other. Just for comparison, Mars gets within approx. 304 million mi (490 million km) to Jupiter at their closest. Interestingly enough, Jupiter is so far away from Mars that, at all times, Mars is closer to Mercury than it is to Jupiter.
Mars because the Mars Rovers discovered evidence that there was once flowing water.
The SAME? No. "ABOUT" the same? Well, close; a Mars day is a little less than 25 hours.
light from the sun shines on mars. And because it is so close to us it looks brighter and larger then your every day star.
Yes it would take 3 years to get to mars, or less at the right timing when mars is close to earth
54,600,000 kilometers from earth.
No. That's the "Mars Hoax" that Mars will be close to Earth and appear "as bigas the full moon!". Not even close to being true.
Actually mars will come close to earth on August 27th 2009!
they will be very close but they will not hit each other.
Not really. Mars is never closer to Earth than about 35 million miles away.
Mars and Venus
At opposition (Mars is opposite to the Sun), Mars can be between about 55 and 100 million kilometers - depending on where Earth and Mars meet (the orbit of Mars is quite a bit more excentric than Earth's orbit).
Never. Mars and earth both orbit the sun. Since Mars has a more distant orbit, a year on Mars is almost the equivalent of two years on earth.
Venus and Mars Mars is more closer... What has that mean?? To answer your question, Venus and Mars are close to Earth.
Yes. Mars comes fairly close to Earth about every 26 months or so as the Earth passes Mars in its orbit. Some approaches are closer than others, due to the fact that both planets are in elliptical orbits. You can see a simulation of Mars and Earth in their orbits at http://www.windows.ucar.edu/tour/link=/mars/mars_orbit.html. When Mars is closer and Earth is farther away from the Sun, as in August 2003, they do get quite close. But they have had such close approaches every few hundred years since the planets formed 4+ billion years ago.
Mars is closer to the sun than Jupiter.plants:Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter,Saturn, Uranus, an Neptune.
