George has his own line of hats made by Resistol. He wears straw hats in their natural color. His felt hats come in many colors but I've only ever seen him wear black and silverbelly (which are actually more tan than silver). I don't think you'll ever see him in a black straw hat like some other artist wear because there is actually and etiquette as to when you wear certain kinds of hats. In a picture of George Strait you can guess pretty closely what time of year or season it is.
Junco hats in Honduras are traditionally made from woven straw, specifically from the juncos plant, which is a type of grass. The weaving technique gives these hats their distinctive look and durability. While felt hats exist, junco hats are primarily recognized for their straw construction and craftsmanship.
Traditionally, black should be worn after labor day. The same is true for a cowboy hat. As a general rule, I wear black in the fall and winter and straw in the spring or summer. I also wear straw when I am working outside or in the hot sun. Black hats are felt or beaver and you wouldn't want to use it as a work hat.
