They are pulled to the light by a type of force.They need the light so they can grow and function properly. They also need the light for a heat source and a way to start the photosynthesis cycle.

Make sure to look closely at a plant then look at were the light is pointed maybe that would give you a hint to why it Is bent a certain way.
