The Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) went through several major mountain ranges, including the Rocky Mountains, Selkirk Mountains, and Coast Mountains. These mountain ranges presented significant engineering challenges to the construction of the railway.

The Rhodope Mountains go through northeastern Greece along the northern border. The Pindus Mountains run down the center of Greece. The Acarnanian Mountains are in western Greece. The The Pierian Mountains are in Central Macedonia, Greece.
The major mountain ranges along the Pacific coastline of North America include the Coast Ranges in California, the Cascade Range from British Columbia to Northern California, and the Sierra Nevada in California. Further south in Mexico, the Sierra Madre Occidental and Sierra Madre Oriental run parallel to the Pacific coast.

I know there are the Andes Mountains, which go up through Chile, but I'm not sure if there are any others... There may be some, but I don't know them off the top of my head.

A system of well-maintained mountain passes or a network of tunnels would allow easier travel between Afghanistan and Pakistan through the mountains. Additionally, the construction of roads and bridges would also facilitate travel in this rugged terrain.
Most mountain ranges occur in the region of major plates colliding with each other, forcing one to go over top of the other.
