This is a difficult question to answer as it depends on how you class a mountain, for example, when does a hill become a mountain? In Scotland, mountains have been classified into the categories of Munros and Corbetts. Munros - over 3000 feet (914m) - there are 277. Corbetts - between 2500ft (762m) and 3000ft - there are 219. There are also classifications for mountains below 2000 feet. All in all, and taking into account the difficulties of classification, there may be said to be about 1200 mountains in Scotland.
