Choreography is the setting of dance movements to music. Choreography allows dance to be translated from the choreographer's mind to a dancer's body. Choreography allows the creation of infinite possibilities in movement. Without choreography, dancers would be improvising all the time, which would not allow for intricate performances such as ballets, for example. Choreography is also passed down, almost like a story, so it can be "read", performed, for generations to follow.
The choreography is important as it has to follow the music. The better it does, the better the choreography.Have a look at this video and see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prQOdTmF8u0
A fashion choreography organizer helps to create a fashion show. Working with the designer of the collection, they will decide the music, tempo, models, background, lighting, styling, and how the models move and walk. These decisions will best showcase the fashions that are being presented. The models are given training about the dress they're wearing, how to carry themselves and the background music that will be played during the catwalk.

There are many music videos with a guy playing a guitar on a street.
It's where people play jazz music on the street.
it's simple. They save the choreography. Like a novel, a copy of a screenplay or a composure of a musical score. That's actually what the choreography looks like when the choreographer writes it down. Like sheet music.
People never thought that music videos were much of a deal before Thriller, They were simply just someone singing, with simple choreography... But Thriller was something that people had never seen in a music video, It had a storyline behind it, There was acting, and by the end people were not calling it a music video, They were calling it a short film. Other music videos all had a similar effect, People could tell there was a storyline behind it, Like Bad, Ghosts is another example, Similar to Thriller, There was again acting and astounding choreography.

It depends. For most dancers it is usually easier to use music in order to stay together with the rest of the group/class. Music also gives a feel and a purpose to the choreography. With most choreography music is used, although dancing without music is sometimes interesting. I think it depends somewhat on how good of a dancer you are.

if you're talking about the movie, "the sound of music", i don't think there's any kind of choreography.
