Mary and Joseph journeyed to Bethlehem from Nazareth (in the north - in the region of Galilee) when Mary was pregnant. Jesus was then born in Bethlehem. The family settled there for two years or more and then returned to nazareth where Jesus grew up. The only other record we have of his childhood was when Mary and Joseph took him on a visit to Jerusalem (NOT Bethlehem) when he was 12 years old.
Mary is a good name for a girl but I wouldn't say it's popular because there are more names that a girl would like for e.g. Jasmine, Cindy, Kelly and more.
A:Mathew's Gospel tells us that Bethlehem was the home town of Joseph and Mary. Jesus was born there, conceived by the Holy Spirit. They fled to Egypt out of fear of King Herod and only much later travelled to Galilee, where they settled in a city called Nazareth. The more popular nativity account that says Nazareth was the home town of Joseph and Mary is in Luke's Gospel.
I do not believe that Mary or Joseph were more special than some others of the day before they were called. They had to have faith, and had certain character. I believe that after they were called, God equipped them mightiliy. Being that Mary became pregnant out of wedlock, which was very, very uncommon for the time, they did have to be able to handle the ridicule and embarrasement.
elizabeth is more popular than mary1
There about more than a million. If you are counting in history probably a lot more than that because Mary was a very popular name from around the 1700s to the 1800s.
Your question is ambiguous as there are more than one Joseph highlighted in Scripture: the son of Israel who became the 2nd highest/powerful man in Egypt and Joseph, the step-father to Jesus and husband/father to Mary and her other children.
More places than Italy celebrate St. Joseph's feasts as he is a popular saint. However, there are many cities and diocese in Italy that call St. Joseph their patron saint.
