At Acts 2:31,32 Peter talked of "this Jesus whom God resurected." (How could God resurect Jesus if Jesus was God?) Jesus apostles believed the same. The apostle Paul once described Christ as the head of the congregation, "and the head of Christ is God". (Not "the head of God is God) Jesus told his followers he the father (God) was greater than he was, that God knew things he did not and many other things that contradict any idea Jesus was God. He even cried out "My God why have you forsaken me?" when he was dying (which makes no sense if he was God)

Because the local authorities and scholars did not believe Jesus was really the Son of God. This meant they disapproved of any followers - as being heretics.
