You must be an anthropologist since you used "live" instead of "livED." N.Carolina is no longer a colony ;)
North Carolina "started" as a colony around 1653 when a group of Virginians moved south, they were English. in 1663 King Charles granted a charter for Virginian settlement, in 1729 both Carolinas became official colonies.
When the English first came, there some American nations ( or tribes) already living there, Cherokees, Catawbwas, Creek, Croatans, Tuscarora, Tutelos and smaller bands of other related tribes.
By the time of the Revolution N. Carolina was one of the most diversely populated colonies, 4th most populous overall. English lived mostly in the East, along with (by 1776) some 10,000 slaves of African descent .
Migrants of other nationality had moved in by 1730, mostly to the west, they included; mostly Scotch-Irish and Germans, smaller numbers of Highland Scots, Moravians, and Welsh, there were even smaller numbers of French Huegenots and Swiss. There were, no doubt, other nationalities represented here and there from time to time but in no appreciable numbers except locally. ( answered 5-6-13)
