They are in Nebraska. The Platte River is usually associated with Nebraska which it crosses to join the Missouri. Both the North Platte and the South Platte have their origin in Colorado but the North Platte flows notth through Wyoming before heading southeast to join and form the Platte in Nebraska. The South Platte also heads northeast from its source but never ventures into Wyoming. They are important American waterways but lack the prestige of the Missouri or Colorado, and were never navigable by anything but a light canoe. At some places it can be "a mile wide and an inch deep", clogged with debris and sandbars. It was both cursed and loved by the early mountain men, and was an essential part ot the western expansion of the United States.
