Andreea Raducan was a Romanian gymnast most famous for being the 1999 Floor Exercise World Champion, as well as the 2001 Balance Beam and Floor Exercise World Champion. In addition, she was involved in a scandal during the 2000 Sydney Olympics. There, she was awarded the gold medal in the all-around women's competition. She was later stripped of her medal because an illegal drug, pseudophedrine, was found during a drug test. However, she had this chemical in her body only because the team's doctor gave her Nurofen, which contained the illegal chemical, as a painkiller. Although Raducan states the drug did nothing except to make her slightly dizzy, and the drug was later removed from the list of illegal substances, Raducan remains without the 2000 All-Around gold medal, a fact many have criticized. Raducan retired in 2002 from artistic gymnastics.
