Running out of music by connie squires?

"Running Out of Music" is a short story by Constance (Connie) Squires published in the 2007 Summer Fiction Issue of the Atlantic Monthly. It is the story of a young girl, Lucinda Collins, who befriends a G.I. named PFC Nately on the Army base in Grafenwoehr, West Germany. Lucinda's father takes her to see Nately because of his record collection and as Nately makes cassettes for her, he also befriends her and tutors her on rock music. Lucinda is profoundly affected by his unexpected death and the cruel way she comes into possession of Nately's record collection--something she had coveted while he was alive. The story is part of a novel forthcoming by Constance Squires from Riverhead Books, currently entitled Along the Watchtower.
