Most of the Jews were given pajama like striped uniforms and some were given shoes or sandals. Many were given nothing if they were ushered right from the rail cars to the gas chambers of which they were told "They are showers." Some of the Jews were allowed to keep their clothes and were given one blanket because they had been chosen to do hard labor for the war effort. Some just got the striped uniform and the blanket and allowed to die from the elements, starvation and disease. The Jews that chose to collaborate with the Nazis got better treatment and more food. Diffusion is the movement of particles from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration. If no other factors are involved, the concentration in the higher region will fall and the concentration in the lower region will rise until the concentration is equal on both sides of the membrane. Normally things move from a side with a high concentration to a low concentration until both are equal. You can see this if you put a spoonful of dry cool aid into water. After a time, all the water has equal amounts of the colored cool aid. This is called passive transport (or osmosis). Active transport occurs in one area that has a higher concentration, the concentration becomes higher still. This can occur in a cell and requires a membrane that separates the sides and has "pumps" in the membrane that keep the two sides from mixing and becoming equal. The pumps in the membrane are proteins.
