Foods such as Junk food like chocolate or candy should be avoided. Any food in the cabbage family can cause your baby to have gas while breast feeding. This includes brocolli and cauliflower. Anything with caffiene as well are not good as it can cause colic or upset stomach for your baby. A general guide for eating while breast feeding is to remind yourself not to eat something that you wouldn't want your new born to eat themselves. You would never let your baby eat a big greasy hamburger, so a breast feeding mother should not eat that either.

anything you take will be passed onto your baby. Really you should refrain from everything you can, including food sources that could pass harmful things to your baby, for example, caffeine, alcohol, etc. If you must take something, Tylenol is considered relatively safe, but make sure not to exceed the proper dosing amounts. Also, don't give baby anything then because it will be increasing the total amount he or she is receiving. It's best to try natural remedies if possible. Try ice packs or heating pads for relief. Also if you are worried about baby remember you could give formula or prep-pumped milk while the toxin is in your system.

Most babies can tolerate all foods in moderation. The main culprits of gassy babies though are EXCESS of dairy, spicy foods, fruit juices, beans/broccoli/cauliflower, onions/garlic and chocolate.
