The main advantage of a flexible tripod is portability. It can be used anywhere. One can position the camera in more angles than a traditional tripod. The legs can be wrapped around objects.
to hold objects above a Bunsen burner eg. a an evaporation basin :)
It's a modified flintlock musket with some type of scope and tripod assembly mounted to it.
Most surveying instruments are mounted on a tripod with a flat surface on top. A tilting level tripod has a curved surface on top. The tripod does not need the precise set up procedure because the tilting level can be shifted up or down along the top of the curved tripod head until the levels own level vial is horizontal and then measurements can be made.
Terrestrial LiDAR, or TLS, is a surveying method that uses a laser scanner mounted on a tripod to collect high-resolution 3D point clouds of the Earth's surface and surrounding objects. It is commonly used in applications such as topographic mapping, infrastructure monitoring, and cultural heritage documentation.

The lightest machine gun of the 12.7x99mm or .50 BMG calibre is the XM312 Machine Gun. It is a still a tripod mounted weapon, weighing a good 19 kilos while mounted on a tripod. This is an extremely low weight in comparison to the 58 kilogram predecessor of the XM312, the M2HB/M3 tripod. LW50MG, as it will be known in the US Army, is based on the XM307 25mm Grenade Machine Gun, giving it roughly half the rate of fire of a standard M2HB.
A tripod with wheels is called a tripod dolly.

Yes and no. Stand by for clarification. There was no AA artillery developed until after the war, but standard rifle bullets were sufficient to bring down most WW1 aircraft. Machine guns were mounted on a tripod which was specially made for AA so it could be angled high. The tripods were available in insufficient numbers, so wagons were turned on their sides and a machine gun on a standard tripod was mounted on one of the wheels.
