Harry goes through many obstacles at Hogwarts- some of the major ones would be going after Quirrel to retrieve the Philosopher's Stone in book 1, defeating the basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets in book 2, saving Sirius Black in book 3, completing the tasks in the Triwizard Tournament and escaping Voldemort when he returned in book 4, battling Voldemort again in book 5, attempting to find Slytherin's locket in the cave and fighting against Death Eaters at Hogwarts in book 6, and finally, finding and destroying all of Voldemort's horcruxes and defeating Voldemort himself in book 7.
He also deals with the abusive Dursleys at home, and bullying at school. In book 5, he has to deal with his inadequate teacher, Umbridge, and forms an organization to teach students everything they are missing. He's an orphan, so he has no parents to guide him through these things, and he also loses his godfather, his mentor (Dumbledore), and many friends and teachers in the final battle against Voldemort. For a long while, he was an outcast by the entire Ministry of Magic at the age of 15. So, in the end, he goes through and overcomes a whole lot of misfortune by age 17.
