Battle started when the German 6th Army got to the outskirts of the city after pursuing 2 soviet divisions which fell back into the city and then Luftwaffe came and heavily bombed the city. During the battle, the Soviet divisions initially were wiped down by German forces and after 3 months, the reached to the Volga river. By this point, German forces were weakened and when the soviets launched operation Uranus, the Germans weren't ready which lead to the trapped of German 6th Army and after endless fighting, the battle ended in February after Soviet last attack which was Operation winter storm, little Saturn and Koltso
