When light hits an object/surface, it's either reflected, absorbed, or refracted. For light to bounce back, the reflection has to be "specular", like a mirror. So the light bounces back with the same(reflected) image. For light to be reflected back at the source. The light has to hit perpendicular to the surface, which is 90°.
Light will be both absorbed and will be reflected unevenly (scattered) when impinging on a surface that is irregular. It depends on the light and the surface, but some light will be absorbed, and the rest (a little or a lot) will be scattered when it is reflected in different directions.

You can't see your reflection in the pages of a book because paper is not a reflective surface like a mirror. Reflection occurs when light bounces off a smooth and shiny surface, but paper absorbs light instead of reflecting it back to your eyes.
