The USdeclared its independence fromEngland through adoption by the Continental Congress of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Itobtained that independence by fighting a war, not from any legislative act. Independence was recognized by England through the signing of the Peace of Paris in 1783.

No treaty granted the US independence. It was the unilateral declaration (Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776) by which this was pronounced.

England recognized, and theoretically accepted, the independence of the US when it signed the Peace of Paris or Treaty of Paris of 1783 (September 3, 1783).
Through the Deceleration of Independence (in 1776)and subsequent War of Independence, the USA asserted itsindependence from England. England recognized that independence by signing the Peace of Paris in 1783.
