One is able to get automatic updates for any of their Mac products online at their website with a download that enables one to receive automatic updates through an updating system that will alert one when a new one comes out.

Automatic Updates applies patches, fixes to remove system gliches, etc., to keep your computer running smoothly. I would suggest you keep the Automatic Updating enabled if you are not of a mind to do your OWN computer maintenance.
It's not possible to install 32-bit updates on a 64-bit system. You can download updates manually and then transfer them to a 32-bit system safely, if that's what you are trying to do.
Right click on My Computer then click Properties.Then click on the Automatic Updates tab. There you will see if and when your computer get updates and you will be able to change these settings here.
