Chemistry is used in the synthesis of more environmentally friendly materials that have a lower toxicty profile. There are many other uses too.
Organic works a lot with Carbon based chemistry along with carbohydrate functions and microorganisms.
Many garments are made from synthetic materials; dyes are also products of the chemical industry as many other materials.

It simply means that you understand each other well and can talk with each other easily without needing to look for topics to talk about or worry about the other being offended by things you say naturally. Well, from my syllabus which is IB, i would say the most important are Oxidation and reduction, Stoichiometry, Organic Chemistry, Acids and Bases and energetics. There are others but they aren't too difficult to learn or apply and aren't purely chemistry such as Kinetics.
