Because Shimer College is different from most other colleges in a number of ways, there are several different groups of schools that are "like" Shimer in one way or another.
Other Great Books schools include St. John's College, Gutenberg College, and St. Thomas Aquinas College. Among these, however, there is no college with Shimer's tradition of cultural openness and self-governance.
Other small colleges with traditions of openness and self-governance include Marlboro College and Deep Springs College. However, none of these schools has anything like Shimer's Great Books program.
Other liberal arts colleges with early entrance programs include Bard and Mary Baldwin. However, none of these colleges has anything that resembles either Shimer's curriculum or its tradition of self-governance.

Most colleges in the U.S. accept the SAT, unless they're special schools like culinary schools and schools of the arts. However, the ACT is the standardized test of choice for many schools in the Midwest.
Searching for a college is a very tedious yet enjoyable process. You have a lot of factors to consider, such as your interests, lifestyle preferences- size of school and location, finances- whether or not you can afford to attend your prospective schools, the reputation of the schools, and your overall perception of the schools. To find out your perception on these aspects of college, you have to to do a lot of research and visit the schools that you would like to apply to. To begin this process, I suggest you allow yourself as many college choices as possible. As you carry on your research, you will begin eliminate schools that do not suit you. Although you may need to be guided by someone who is familiar with the college search process, only YOU can choose the best school for YOU. Good Luck!
