Yes. Each state has 2 senators. It is the House of Representatives that splits the representatives by population count: California would have the highest because there are more people there than any other state.
There were 30 states already when California entered the Union.
No. They are in many other states also.
Nortenos are in every state in the United States of America but more in Northern California and Central California and some in Southern California.
I don't think that this is a practical idea. If California, a state with two Senators, becomes two states with a total of four Senators, those two states will have more political influence in the Senate than the state of California has now, and other states would not like to see that, because more influence for California necessarily means less influence for them. So there would be too much political opposition. Also, the US constitution does not describe any mechanism by which a state can split into two states. How do you do it - a referendum? It would probably be necessary, in order to satisfy legal requirements, to amend the US constitution in order to create such a mechanism, and constitutional amendment is difficult to do, and requires very broad national agreement, which is not likely in this case.
If you are talking about state senators, the answer is fifty nine. If you are talking about senators from Illinois that represent Illinois in Washington D.C. in the United States congress, the answer is two.
California
As mandated in the United States Constitution, they get two senators, same as every other state. However, they are represented by six Representatives in the United States House of Representatives.
