Lions are perfectly designed for life on the plains. Their coloration blends in well with grass there, and living in prides helps them to obtain prey in areas that do not provide much cover. Tigers, on the other hand, have a striped coat, that allows them to melt away into the forested lands they hunt, and therefore they have no need of others to help them be successful hunters.
