Lake Nyos is a crater lake located in the Northwest region of Cameroon. It is a deep lake high on the flank of the inactive volcano in the oku volcanic plain along the Cameroon line of volcanic activity.

Lake Nyos -The lake responsible for the most Deaths, excluding drowning, is Lake Nyos in Cameroon, west Africa, where toxic gases have claimed nearly 2,000 lives in recent decades. On just one night in August 1986, between 1,600 and 1,800 people and countless animals were killed by large natural release of carbon dioxide gas.
Lake Chad is the largest lake in the northern part of Africa but Lake Victoria is the largest lake in Africa. Lake Chad is part of the border of Chad, Cameroon, Nigeria and Niger. The lake is very shallow at 34 feet deep.
