The library survived
The fire originated in, and destroyed, the Centre Block of the Canadian Parliament buildings.
Most of Chicago had to be rebuilt because of it.
About 17,500 buildings were destroyed and 90,000 people were homeless.
The parliament buildings of Canada were made in between 1859 and 1865. But in 1918, there was a fire that destroyed all of it except the library.
Among others, there was the O'Leary house near the fire's point of origin, Holy Family Church and the Chicago Water Tower.

John Smith Murdoch was the chief architect of Commonwealth Australia in 1919. He was accountable for designing many early Canberra buildings the most well known being the Provisional Parliament House.

The Great Fire of London in 1666 destroyed most of the buildings which preceded that time, but the Tower of London (11th century and earlier) survived.
