A laser printer uses a beam of light to generate text and images on to paper. The laser is used to create a negatively charged image on parts of the printer drum. The toner then sticks to the areas of the drum that is negatively charged before being transferred to paper.
Usually, the drum of a laser printer needs replacing when it becomes worn. The maker's website should give instructions for replacing worn parts, with part numbers, etc. Any moving part, given time and heavy use, will wear out and need to be replaced.
The first step in creating a laser printout, is for the printer to remove any toner from the drum from a previous print. The printer than conditions the drum by removing any latent images. A new image is then inscribed onto the drum using the laser to charge parts of the drum. Toner is applied to the drum, and the image is transferred to paper. Finally the toner is fused to the paper through heat and pressure.
