Simply put, you use your entire body when you sing. Just like a violin, trumpet, or other similar instrument, the entire body helps to form its sound. Similarly, our bodies are the places that the sound resonates. There are certain parts of the body that are used more, but the whole body is essential. The sound you produce begins with air that you intake in your lungs, and space is made in your lungs for that air by your diaphragm contracting and pushing your intestines and stomach down. You then use your vocal cords as they vibrate from the air that is passed out of your lungs. Then of course, you couldn't sing without the use of everything in your mouth-tongue, soft palate, lips, etc. This is because singing not only produces notes but also words. Your voice/body is the only instrument that can do this. There is much more that your body does while singing, but those are probably some of the basics that one should focus on.
The important parts of the body used in singing;Buttocks, diaphragm lungs, upper and lower back, leg muscles,. Although we do use other important muscles "to produce a beautiful tone quality" these are some main ones.Opera singing requires a lot of knowledge on how to use your muscles in order to hold back the breath so you can stay on pitch and sing in control. This is very important for soft singing. If you start out with the proper singing technique you can sing anything from Rock to Opera.
