They consistently want to be like big brother in Tuscaloosa, therefore, they need 2 mascots in order to feel better about themselves.

Of course, personal background, quality of writing, and individual talents and attributes also play into a university's admissions decisions. Keep in mind that universities are ultimately a business. It's all about what you can offer them.
