∙ 8y agoAtheists may be under represented in data on prisons. Prisoners are smart enough to know that appearing sorry for their crimes, finding the Lord, becoming a good Christian and similar visible signs of reform are important for their general treatment, parole hearings and early release. As a consequence they will adopt (or fake) belief in whatever religious instruction is offered to them. This is similar to the need for prisoners to admit their guilt to get parole even if they are wrongly imprisoned.There is no reason to suspect that the percent of atheists in prisons is different from the percent in the total population of the country.
