King Henry VIII of England not only broke away from the Catholic Church, but he outlawed any of his subjects from following it. He disposed hundreds of religious turning monks, nuns, brothers, and sisters out of their monasteries and friaries and leaving them on the street with nothing. He stole the Churches from the Catholic Church along with all their furnishing, outlawed the saying of Holy Mass. Every single Bishop (save one) refused to go along with him and were relieved of their titles, their incomes, their homes, and their possessions, and in some cases, their lives. Innocent good Christians were persecuted, tortured, and killed for following the faith that they had grown up with. King Henry did a lot more than "break away" from the Catholic Church.

Of course we can! Christianity doesn't stop at the Vatican!! There are many many denominations other than the Roman Catholic Church. These include Anglicans, Methodists, Lutherans, Orthodox, Baptists, Pentecostals, URC, Episcopalians, Salvationists, and many others. In fact, it is believed that there are now more non-Catholic Christians than Catholic - especially since the Christian Church has grown in the Far east (eg South Korea and China) and most of the new Christians are non-Catholic. Actually, world wide, the number of Catholics outnumbers Protestants by a ratio of nearly 2 to 1.
