Density. Centrifuging the mix would cause the nails to go to the outside of the tub. Dumping the mix in water would cause the nails to go the bottom, and the peanuts to float. Throwing the mix in the air would result in the peanuts falling a few feet away, and the nails going further.

IN ADDITION:A magnet would separate the two. A fan will also. If you dipped them both in gasoline, the peanuts would dissolve, leaving the nails.

Since iron is a metal, you would be able to use a magnet to separate it from the charcoal, as charcoal is not magnetizable You could burn the charcoal, because it has a lower point than the iron, which would be left behind.

Use a magnet. All you have to do is put you iron shavings and steel shaving together just drag the magnet around and the iron shavings will follow when you pick the magnet up all your iron shaving should be separated from the steel shavings.

Magnetism. Iron is magnetic and salt is not. Alternatively, you could add water so the salt dissolves, then filter the mixture. The iron filing would be left behind on the filter paper and you would be left with a solution of salt water.
