It depends on the author, the hero, and the story. Some authors don't think prayer has any power, or are worried about limiting the readership of the book, and so they don't addres prayer at all. In other books, prayer dictates every action. Others, prayer is used as a guide when the hero can't think of anything else, or only in times of incredible stress.
